Creve Coeur Municipal Court Law Day Celebration and Art Contest

Each year on May 1 our nation celebrates Law Day. In an effort to join this celebration, the Creve Coeur Municipal Court has planned a community outreach program to recognize this special day with the youth of our community. Law Day’s primary objective is to spread awareness on the important role the court system plays in our constitutional democracy as well as how our legal process contributes to the freedoms and opportunities available to all Americans.

This year’s Law Day theme, as proclaimed by the American Bar Association, is titled, “The 14th Amendment: Transforming American Democracy,” in celebration of the upcoming 150th anniversary of the Fourteenth Amendment. The Judicial staff of the Creve Coeur Municipal Court would like to take this opportunity to encourage our local youth programs, student groups, home-schooled youth, scout troops and educational institutions set aside time to read and discuss this impressive amendment which has fostered so much controversy yet promise of equal protection for all within the legal system. This would be a great opportunity for class discussion, merit or badge programs, extra credit, or just as fun!

We are looking for submissions of art from local youth within the Creve Coeur area representing YOUR interpretation on how the Fourteenth Amendment is expressed through its Due Process, Citizenship and equal Protection Clauses. You may pick a single theme or integrate multiple interpretations within your submission. Submissions will be taken until the deadline date and will be displayed for public viewing on Law Day, Monday, May 1, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Creve Coeur Government Center at a public reception. Area youth are encouraged to attend this celebration to meet their local judicial staff as well as other municipal government leaders. Prizes will be awarded for the top entries in each categories as voted on by our Law Day Panel. Everyone will receive a certificate of appreciation for their recognition of this important day.
