The City of Creve Coeur Public Works Department offers a tree planting program for residents and subdivisions. The City pays 50 percent of the cost of planting trees in the public rights of way and the resident pays the other 50 percent. There are a variety of trees and sizes to choose from, including native redbuds, flowering dogwoods and Chinese elms.
Most trees do best when planted in the fall, which is why the trees will be planted in during late October and early November. Trees planted during the spring expend their energy on growing leaves and roots, oftentimes through a hot and dry summer, however trees planted during the fall aren’t growing new leaves and can instead exert more energy toward growing roots. This, combined with autumn’s rainfall and warm soil, makes fall a great time of year to plant trees.
The deadline to submit an application is Friday, October 19.
